Selection of high interest, low vocabulary books is one important factor. Getting them into reluctant readers hands is another.
According to Teenreads.com 2009 Reader survey, 83% of their respondents relied on book recommendations from friends. Only 36% from librarians.
Books marketed as High/Low may have a place in direct reading instruction, but do not tend to be books that children select to read.
